week five, simplified…

I’m now into month two of making one painting a week for a year, and the return to unadulterated shape and color (after two weeks of losing this) has been welcomed.  The larger series of paintings that I am working on demands an overwhelming amount of looking and listening to the the painting, and these 52 paintings aren’t about that.  They are impulsive, “fun”, and likely easier than all of the Work that I have done over the past decade.  I was going to say that they are “shallower” than the other work, but, on some level, that is not true at all.  Depth is subjective… I’m enjoying the exploration of color, and I am grateful for the lightness of this practice.  Five down, forty-seven to go.

Last week, the first painting of the series sold… It was a joy to see it installed, but a slight moment of identity crisis, as I am still settling in to the understanding that this work is coming out of my studio.
