Social Media Sabbatical
I may not be religious, but I embrace spiritual ritual with fervor. This year, in conjunction with the Lenten Season, I will be abstaining from social media for forty days. I am a real addict… nearly nineteen years clean and sober from the choice drugs of my early addictions. Like many humans nowadays, I find the compulsive use of social media to have a stronghold in my life, and I have tired again of its power. Shenpa is the habitual urge/itch to use something outside of ourselves for distraction from ourselves… Pema Chodron has a great teaching on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9EDmLqGRWc
Social media is the epidemic itch… I am ready to stop scratching and to move into understanding more deeply why it gets me hooked. So, I’ll venture into this desert for forty days and dive head first into self examination to explore the depths. It’s likely that this blog will be a receptacle for some of the debris that I uncover… you have been warned. Thanks for stopping by.
