Fired and Hired

We’ve been working towards finishing out our little one car garage for years… and, over the last six months we have inched closer and closer. I had done some preliminary work to get it ready for a contractor, and then I started trying to find someone to help. Long story short, I recently “fired” the contractor who was working on getting me some final numbers, before he was really even hired. Then, I hired myself. I was fed up with the frustrations of trying to get the project moving along toward some sense of progress. I probably have enough skills and smarts to get plenty of the work done (with a little help from my friends), and I won’t have to wait on contractor’s schedules or subcontractors with so many other issues in their tool kits. Today, I tore out the drywall ceiling so that it could be insulated and then easily accessed by the electrician… it was somewhat therapeutic to use the hammer on innocent drywall, and, it was productive. I’m sure there will be some learning curves along the way, and probably a couple of derailments, but I am determined to be a good hire, and I’m excited to get to do some physical labor peppered with problem solving.
