Artist Spotlight – Craig Carlisle

Posted by Dane Carder on April 30, 2019

This weekend, a new and good friend of mine, Craig Carlisle, will open the second of his two shows at Julia Martin Gallery. The exhibits showcase the work from Craig’s series, Letters to a Friend, a powerful documentation of his process of working through a traumatic loss. The power of the work is masterfully dressed in delicacy with softened hues and forms, symbolic of  the essential vulnerability that makes true grieving possible. He is much like his paintings in this series. I’m not sure if there are any more available, but he produced a beautiful book for this series… Check here for availability, or the gallery may also have copies. The opening reception is Saturday, from 6-9:00, and I imagine that it runs through the month of May.

Also, take a stroll through his site, craigcarlisle.comto see the iconic series that he has been working on for the past couple of decades.

*** Serendipitous fact:  I just found out that May 1 is his birthday… Happy Birthday, Craig.
