Here is a piece of one of the nearly two dozen paintings that are in progress for the 4 Bridges Festival… it is down to the last month, and thank god (or somebody else) the economy is what it is, and that i don’t have a full schedule of painting walls… i will be in the studio more than usual from now until the show (april 16,17, 18), and i am grateful to have the opportunity. it will not be easy. these paintings are slow to mature, and the technique is somtimes painful to watch unfold, but it is the calling, and i have to do this. i am considering a preview party at the studio before i go to chattanooga… we’ll see what happens. in other news, i have recently seen an exhibit of abstract paintings that really got me fuming. i think that the artists involved were supposed to represent some level of quality or reputability… and i did not see much of that. there were a couple of paintings that i thought were strong, and a bunch of them that i thought stunk up the space. needless to say, i am not a trained critic, but someone needs to put an end to mediocrity in such arenas. i am overly critical sometimes, but i know the capacity of paint, and i am not seeing it treated well on to often an occasion. i will try to word such a critique better soon… i need to critique my critic and see what i can say. until then…
